Situated 45 minutes north of Rarotonga is one of the rare pearls of this earth - the little known Aitutaki atoll, and its brilliant turqoise blue lagoon. Listed as one of the top 40 places to visit before you die, the only way to get there is via a small 30-seater Saab prop plane from Rarotonga, landing on an airstrip built by allied forces during WWII in Aitutaki. In a way, it’s very similar to the more well-known Bora Bora (French Polynesia), but far less commercialized and for the most part, untouched in its natural beauty.
The approach into Aitutaki was pretty breathtaking.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the ocean like this before. The flare from the ocean and the white beaches was so high I had to set the cam to ISO100/F4.5-5.0/-1ev to take any clear photographs. Words hardly do it justice, but I hope the pictures give you an idea of what it was like.
